Faculty of Education of UP (FE) and its academic staff have long held a prominent position in the research community both nationally and internationally. Thanks to the high expertise of its researchers, FE has shown excellent results, especially in the areas of prevention, education, research, intervention and awareness-raising related to risky behaviour on the Internet, in the creation of systematic reviews, in special pedagogy, in research on healthy lifestyles and in the development of the field of art education and research in art education.
Faculty of Education of UP academic staff have also been active in the editorial boards of international scientific journals, not only in Europe, but also in Canada, Brazil or Japan. Dr. Miloslav Klugar has long held the position of editorial board member in the prestigious scientific journals JBI Evidence Synthesis, or Frontiers of Public Health. Some have held positions at the level of referee in prestigious journals – Associate Professor Jiří Kantor – reviewing for the prestigious Research in Developmental Disabilities, or Quality & Quantity – International Journal of Methodology.
Faculty of Education of UP hosted over 800 foreign visitors. Among the most prominent personalities was undoubtedly the world-famous American psychologist Ramani Durvasula, who lectured at FE in 2019 on narcissism in society and in partner relationships. The newly established Center of Evidence-based Education and Arts Therapies hosted distinguished professors at FE: In 2023, Professor Karin Schumacher came from the Berlin University of the Arts to lecture on music therapy and autism; in 2022, Professor Jos de Backer from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, known for his work on musical improvisation in a therapeutic context, lectured here; in 2021, Professor Jaakko Erkkilä from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, psychotherapist and music therapist lectured on music therapy and psychiatry. In 2022, the Centre hosted two professors who presented the field of clinical guideline development methodology. These were Professor Holger Schünemann from McMaster University in Canada and Professor Zachary Munn from the University of Adelaide in Australia. In 2019, FE hosted Professor Richard Hickman from the University of Cambridge, who presented on Art and Design Education.
Faculty of Education of UP was also involved in an international scientific society through the Centre of Evidence-based Education & Arts Therapies: JBI Affiliated Group. This Centre is part of the international Joanna Briggs Institute Collaboration and works closely with the Czech National Centre for Evidence-Based Healthcare and Knowledge Translation in Brno (Cochrane Czech Republic, Czech Evidence-Based Healthcare Centre: Joanna Briggs Institute Centre of Excellence, Masaryk University GRADE Centre). FE organized in cooperation with 4 universities the International Scientific Conference of students of doctoral study programmes in the field of social sciences, the conference was also intended for young and novice researchers.
FOREIGN SCIENTISTS' VISITS
Dr. Ramani Durvasula is a licensed clinical psychologist in Los Angeles, CA, Professor Emerita of Psychology at California State University, Los Angeles, and the Founder and CEO of LUNA Education, Training & Consulting. Prof. Karin Schumacher worked as a music therapist and child and adolescent psychotherapist in clinical contexts and in private practice for over 40 years. Her research focuses on music therapy for pervasive developmental disorders, especially autism. Since 1990, together with the developmental psychologist Claudine Calvet, she has been developing the so-called “EBQ instrument” to assess relationship quality. Karin Schumacher has been retired since 2016 and continues to teach as a lecturer at the Music Therapy Center of the UdK Berlin. Professor Zachary Munn is an advocate for evidence-based healthcare and for ensuring policy and practice is based on the best available evidence. Professor Munn is the founding Director of Health Evidence Synthesis, Recommendations and Impact (HESRI) in the School of Public Health at the University of Adelaide; Head of the Evidence Synthesis Taxonomy Initiative (ESTI); Founding Director of the JBI Adelaide GRADE Centre; past-Chair of the Guidelines International Network (GIN) and a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Investigator. He is a systematic review, evidence implementation and guideline development methodologist. Prof Munn's work in implementation science has resulted in direct improvements in healthcare practice.
